Competitions, clinics, concerts and more, the 51st annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival is sure to take the city by storm from April 21 – 22! The festival kicks off on Friday, April 21 with student competitions happening across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Guest artist headliner concerts, the 52nd Street celebration and many other performances and festivities will be following the competition to ensure a jazz-filled weekend for all festivalgoers. Guest artists Doc Severinsen and Carl Allen will be playing alongside the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I at the State Theatre during both nights of the festival.

Andy Nelson

Andy Nelson is an experienced woodwind specialist and educator who is comfortable in a wide range of musical genres. He has been an active freelance musician in Chicago, New York, and the Twin Cities. In 1997 Mr. Nelson earned a B.M. in Jazz Studies from DePaul University in Chicago. As an undergraduate, he studied saxophone with Mark Colby, Peter Ballin, and Rudresh Mahanthappa; and studied arranging with Frank Mantooth and Cliff Colnot. In 2010 Mr. Nelson earned an M.A. in Music Education from University of St. Thomas. He is currently on faculty at Ramsey Middle School in Minneapolis where he teaches band, orchestra, and jazz band. He is adjunct faculty with J.A.M. (Jazz Around Minneapolis) summer camp with Minneapolis Public Schools, featuring student performers at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Mr. Nelson has also served as a section coach for the Minnesota Music Education Association's All State Band Camp.
