Competitions, clinics, concerts and more, the 51st annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival is sure to take the city by storm from April 21 – 22! The festival kicks off on Friday, April 21 with student competitions happening across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Guest artist headliner concerts, the 52nd Street celebration and many other performances and festivities will be following the competition to ensure a jazz-filled weekend for all festivalgoers. Guest artists Doc Severinsen and Carl Allen will be playing alongside the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I at the State Theatre during both nights of the festival.

Brian Handleland

Brian Handeland is a saxophonist/woodwind doubler and a native of Minneapolis, MN. Brian studied saxophone and jazz at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of North Texas, where he played/recorded with a large variety of ensembles including the DownBeat award winning UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I, the DownBeat award winning UNT Latin Jazz Ensemble, and the Grammy-nominated UNT 1 O'Clock Lab Band. After UNT, Brian was employed as a touring pit orchestra musician for NETworks Presentations, where he played flute/clarinet/saxophones on the International tour of Shrek the Musical, as well as on North American tours of the musicals Elf and Flashdance. Brian also recently completed his first Holiday Tour with pianist Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra. Brian currently works as a freelance woodwind doubler/educator in the Twin Cities, and can be seen performing with various jazz/rock/folk bands around the Twin Cities area, including Machinery Hill, the Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Brass Barn Polka Band
