Competitions, clinics, concerts and more, the 51st annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival is sure to take the city by storm from April 21 – 22! The festival kicks off on Friday, April 21 with student competitions happening across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Guest artist headliner concerts, the 52nd Street celebration and many other performances and festivities will be following the competition to ensure a jazz-filled weekend for all festivalgoers. Guest artists Doc Severinsen and Carl Allen will be playing alongside the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I at the State Theatre during both nights of the festival.

Lauren Sevian

Grammy award winning baritone saxophonist Lauren Sevian has been a mainstay on the jazz scene for nearly 20 years. After graduating from Manhattan School of Music, she became a regular with the Mingus Big Band, and is enjoying a career as an active side woman performing with groups such as the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band and the Count Basie Orchestra. Her versatility has also had her backing up artists such as comedian Denis Leary and dancer Maurice Hines. She has also been fortunate to perform alongside luminaries such as Jimmy Heath and Christian McBride. She has been recognized for the past several years in Downbeat in the critics poll and for her debut release "Blueprint". A frequent guest artist and educator, she served on the panel of judges for the "Essentially Ellington" competition, and instructs at Jazz at Lincoln Center, NJPAC, and Jazz House Kids!
