Competitions, clinics, concerts and more, the 51st annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival is sure to take the city by storm from April 21 – 22! The festival kicks off on Friday, April 21 with student competitions happening across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Guest artist headliner concerts, the 52nd Street celebration and many other performances and festivities will be following the competition to ensure a jazz-filled weekend for all festivalgoers. Guest artists Doc Severinsen and Carl Allen will be playing alongside the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I at the State Theatre during both nights of the festival.

Randy Lee

Mr. Randy Lee is enjoying a long career of active music teaching/music making. He has taught music performance groups, lessons, and classroom music for decades and his Hermantown groups have been selected to play for music teacher conventions/conferences. Mr. Lee has been chosen to conduct a myriad of honor band and honor jazz events in the state and region and has presented on instrumental music teaching topics at many national and state conferences and/or conventions. He has often been hired and/or selected as section coach (saxophone/clar) for various honors events including the MN High School All-State Band and Jazz Band and recently served a two year term as VP-Jazz Education Chair for the MN Music Educators’ Assoc (MMEA) Board of Directors. Mr. Lee is a Past National President and Secretary of the American School Band Directors’ Association (ASBDA) and has been elected to state positions for that organization as well.

He has a Master’s Degree in Education-Instruction.

Randy is the founder (1990), conductor, and Artistic Director of the Big Time Jazz Orchestra, made up of the finest big band jazz musicians in NW Wi and northern MN and is one of the busiest woodwind performers in the region playing for various jazz related performances from background events to Dixieland bands to wedding dances and receptions to big band concerts. He and/or his bands have been hired to accompany the Guy Lombardo (Al Pierson and the Royal Canadians), Russ Morgan, Harry James, and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras, the Temptations, Four Tops, Mills Brothers, Wayne Newton, Drifters, Bobby Vinton, Johnny Mathis and Marvin Hamlisch. He’s performed at nearly every location in the region (including six casinos from NW MN to Eastern WI and the Dells as well as with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, Itasca Symphony Orchestra, Twin Ports Wind Orchestra, Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center (Solon Springs), Big Top Chautauqua (Bayfield) and as a guest performer with nearly every regional college and high school band/jazz band.
